14 Phere १४ फेरे (2021) — Hindi Comedy

In the 2021 Hindi-language romantic comedy-drama "14 Phere," directed by Devanshu Singh, Sanjay, a Rajput from Jahanabad, and Aditi, a Jat from Jaipur, fall in love and plan to marry. Aware that their inter-caste union would face familial opposition, they devise a plan to convince their parents by arranging a fake set of parents for each, aiming to present themselves as belonging to the same caste. The film delves into themes of caste-based discrimination and the lengths individuals go to for familial acceptance. The central conflict revolves around the couple's struggle to navigate societal norms and familial expectations, leading them to orchestrate two weddings with the help of their friends. The tone is comedic, with moments of drama, as the characters' plan leads to a series of humorous and chaotic events. The performances of Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda as Sanjay and Aditi, respectively, are complemented by supporting roles from Gauahar Khan and Jameel Khan. "14 Phere" was released on July 23, 2021, on ZEE5. The film received mixed to positive reviews, with critics praising the performances but noting a lack of depth in the narrative. The Times of India rated it 3 out of 5, suggesting it could appeal to those who enjoy family sagas and wedding dramas. The Indian Express, however, gave it a 1.5 out of 5, criticizing the film for being "tiresome" and "mired in confusion." Despite the mixed reception, "14 Phere" offers a satirical look at societal norms and the complexities of love and family in contemporary India.
