Bagh Bandi Khela বাঘ বন্দি খেলা (2018) — Bangla Action

"Bagh Bandi Khela" (2018) is a Bengali-language action drama thriller directed by Raja Chanda, Haranath Chakraborty, and Sujit Mondal. The film features an ensemble cast including Jeet, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Soham Chakraborty, Srabanti Chatterjee, Sayantika Banerjee, and Rittika Sen. The narrative unfolds through three distinct stories, each exploring different facets of crime and its repercussions. In the first segment, "Bagh," Jeet portrays an undercover spy on a mission to apprehend an international criminal. The second story, "Bandi," features Soham Chakraborty as a small-time entrepreneur who inadvertently becomes a witness to a murder, leading him into a perilous situation. The final segment, "Khela," stars Prosenjit Chatterjee as a criminal defense lawyer who faces public scorn for defending individuals accused of heinous crimes. Each narrative delves into themes of justice, morality, and the personal toll of engaging with the criminal underworld. Upon its release, "Bagh Bandi Khela" received mixed reviews. The Times of India awarded the film a rating of 3 out of 5, noting that the pacing was good and the short stories kept the audience interested without dragging on forever. However, Film Companion criticized the film for lacking logic and coherent storytelling, stating that despite the presence of three of Bengal’s biggest stars, the film barely manages to hold attention even at an illogical, campy level. The film's structure, comprising three unconnected stories, was seen as a departure from traditional narrative forms, which may have contributed to its polarizing reception. "Bagh Bandi Khela" stands as a notable example of contemporary Bengali cinema's experimentation with anthology storytelling, reflecting the industry's ongoing exploration of diverse narrative techniques.
