Bandhan বন্ধন (2004) — Bangla Drama

"Bandhan" (2004) is a Bengali romantic family drama directed by Rabi Kinagi, featuring Jeet, Koel Mallick, and Victor Banerjee. The film follows Rohit (Jeet), a widower residing in Singapore with his son, Rony. After his wife Meena's passing, Rohit has severed ties with her family due to their disapproval of their marriage. Upon receiving an invitation to Meena's cousin Chumki's wedding in India, Rohit and Rony return, where they encounter Meena's twin sister, Rina (also portrayed by Koel Mallick). Rony, unfamiliar with his mother's family, mistakes Rina for Meena, leading him to wish for his father to remarry her. The central conflict arises as Rohit and Rina develop a deep connection, challenging the longstanding estrangement between Rohit and his father-in-law, Pratap Narayan Chowdhury (Victor Banerjee). The film explores themes of familial bonds, societal expectations, and the complexities of love and loss. Director Rabi Kinagi crafts a narrative that delves into the intricacies of relationships and the healing process following personal tragedy. "Bandhan" is a remake of the Telugu film "Santosham" and the Tamil film "Unnai Thedi," reflecting its cross-cultural appeal. Upon its release in 2004, "Bandhan" was a significant commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing Bengali film of that year. The film's soundtrack, composed by Jeet Gannguli, featured popular songs like "Shey Chhilo Boroi Anmona" and "Je Kothati Mone," which resonated with audiences. "Bandhan" appeals to viewers interested in family dramas that navigate themes of love, reconciliation, and personal growth. Its success underscores the enduring popularity of narratives that address universal human emotions and the complexities of familial relationships.
