Forbidden Fruits (2026) — English Horror

"Forbidden Fruits" blends horror and comedy in a darkly whimsical exploration of sisterhood and cult dynamics. Set in a seemingly ordinary shopping mall, the film follows Apple, a Free Eden employee who moonlights as the leader of a witchy femme cult alongside her fellow "fruits," Cherry and Fig. This hidden world thrives in the basement after hours, where the trio indulges in their own rituals and performative sisterhood. However, their cult's equilibrium is disrupted when new hire Pumpkin arrives, challenging the status quo and igniting tensions that force the women to confront their inner demons. The central conflict of "Forbidden Fruits" revolves around the challenge to the group's performative nature and the complexities of sisterhood. As Pumpkin infiltrates their secretive gatherings, the cult faces a reckoning that lays bare their own destructive tendencies. Meredith Alloway’s direction deftly mixes horror and comedy, creating an atmosphere rife with tension and absurdity. The film delves into themes of identity, power, and the masks individuals wear to fit into a collective, all while maintaining a satirical edge that critiques the clichés often found in both horror and cult narratives. Originating from the United States, "Forbidden Fruits" invites viewers into a bizarre, yet familiar, shopping mall setting where the mundane meets the macabre. The film's reception is likely to resonate with those who appreciate dark comedy and the intricacies of cult dynamics, particularly in a contemporary context. As Apple, Cherry, Fig, and Pumpkin navigate their tangled web of loyalty and betrayal, the film underscores the perils of conformity and the fear of the unknown, ultimately leaving audiences to ponder the cost of belonging in a world defined by performative connections. Released in 2026, "Forbidden Fruits" stands as a contemporary reflection on the darker sides of sisterhood and the lengths to which individuals will go to maintain their positions within a collective.
