Hindi Medium हिंदी मीडियम (2017) — Hindi Comedy

"Hindi Medium" is a poignant comedy-drama that explores the trials of Mita and Raj Batra, a well-off couple in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, as they navigate the competitive landscape of getting their daughter into an English medium school. Set against the backdrop of the bustling city, the film captures the couple's desperation as they confront their biggest hurdle: their Hindi-speaking background, which proves to be a significant barrier in a society that values English proficiency over cultural roots. The central conflict revolves around Mita and Raj's struggle to assimilate into elite society, where their native language is viewed as inferior. Directed by Saket Chaudhary, the film delves into themes of identity and class, humorously critiquing the education system that perpetuates such elitism. The tone balances light-hearted moments with deeper reflections on societal expectations, as the couple resorts to increasingly absurd measures to fit in and secure their daughter's future. "Hindi Medium" not only highlights the importance of language in social mobility but also challenges the notion that success is solely defined by one's command of English. Produced by Maddock Films in 2017, "Hindi Medium" resonates with audiences grappling with similar issues in a rapidly globalizing world. The film's clever satire speaks to both the privileged and the underprivileged, making it relatable to a wide viewer base. With standout performances by Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar, the film underscores the absurdities of social aspirations while poignantly commenting on the loneliness and disconnection that can arise from the pursuit of status. Ultimately, "Hindi Medium" serves as a mirror reflecting the complexities of ambition and belonging within the Indian education system and society at large.
