"Kanamachi" is a 2013 Indian Bengali-language political thriller directed by Raj Chakraborty. The film stars Ankush Hazra as Abir, a young photojournalist, and Abir Chatterjee as Abhimanyu Mukherjee, an aspiring politician. The cast also includes Srabanti Chatterjee, Saayoni Ghosh, Rajatava Dutta, and Supriyo Dutta. Produced by Ashok Dhanuka under the banner of Eskay Movies, "Kanamachi" is a remake of the 2011 Tamil film "Ko." The narrative follows Abir, a passionate photojournalist working for the newspaper Anandabazar Patrika, who inadvertently becomes entangled in a political conspiracy after capturing images of Naxalites robbing a local bank. His pursuit of the story leads him to cross paths with Naina (Srabanti Chatterjee), a fellow journalist, and Abhimanyu (Abir Chatterjee), an engineer turned politician. As Abir delves deeper, he uncovers a web of corruption and deceit, challenging his moral compass and professional integrity. Upon its release, "Kanamachi" received mixed reviews. The Times of India rated it 2.5 out of 5, noting that while the film might appeal to single-screen audiences, it could benefit from a tighter edit. Anurima Das of Nowrunning.com described it as a "single-screen hit," suggesting that with some fine-tuning, the film could have garnered more critical appreciation. The film's exploration of political corruption and its impact on personal relationships offers a compelling narrative for viewers interested in action-packed dramas with a social conscience.
