Obhishopto Nighty অভিশপ্ত নাইটি (2014) — Bangla Comedy

"Obhishopto Nighty" (2014) is a Bengali comedy directed by Birsa Dasgupta, featuring Paoli Dam as Monica, a bar singer in 1985 Kolkata. Monica becomes the victim of Raja's (Indraneil Sengupta) lust, leading to a brief affair and an abrupt breakup. The nightie Monica wore during this encounter changes hands in a logical manner, not magically, and becomes the object of desire for various women, each haunted by unfulfilled love. The film explores themes of ambition, desire, and the lengths individuals go to achieve success. Monica's journey from a village to the competitive film industry in Kolkata highlights the challenges and moral compromises faced by aspiring actresses. The cursed nightie serves as a metaphor for the seductive allure and potential consequences of using one's sexuality to advance in a male-dominated industry. The narrative unfolds with a mix of humor and drama, delving into the complexities of human relationships and the pursuit of dreams. Upon its release, "Obhishopto Nighty" received mixed reviews. The Times of India rated it 2.5 out of 5, describing the story as a "hotchpotch." The film's exploration of themes like ambition and desire, set against the backdrop of Kolkata's film industry, offers a satirical look at the lengths individuals may go to achieve success. While it may not have been universally acclaimed, "Obhishopto Nighty" provides a unique perspective on the complexities of human relationships and the pursuit of dreams.
