Ray Gunn (2026) — English Animation

In the sprawling metropolis of Metropia, a city crafted from the dreams and anxieties of the past, private detective Raymond Gunn navigates a world rife with shadows and secrets. Set in an alternate future envisioned in 1939, "Ray Gunn" follows Gunn, voiced by Sam Rockwell, and his extraterrestrial companion Eyera, as they delve into the underbelly of a society where skyscrapers loom like oppressive giants. The narrative kicks off when Gunn accepts a dubious assignment tied to the enigmatic pop star Venus Nova, leading him into a labyrinth of intrigue and danger. The central conflict of "Ray Gunn" revolves around the investigation of a murder that entangles Gunn deeper into the web of Metropia's dark secrets. Themes of infidelity and deception permeate the plot, as the vibrant yet dystopian cityscape serves as a backdrop for Gunn's quest for truth. Under the direction of Brad Bird, the film blends elements of animation with crime and mystery, creating a unique atmosphere that oscillates between the fantastical and the grim. The presence of flying cars and laser guns hints at a technologically advanced society, yet it is the human and alien interactions that drive the narrative, exploring the lengths individuals will go to protect their interests. "Ray Gunn," released in 2026, reflects contemporary anxieties about celebrity culture and the pervasive influence of technology. With its striking animation and a voice cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Tom Waits, and Matt Berry, the film speaks to audiences intrigued by the complexities of identity within a rapidly evolving society. As Gunn unravels the layers of deception in Metropia, the story invites viewers to confront the shadows cast by their own realities, questioning the boundaries between truth and illusion.
