The Big Bull द बिग बुल (2021) — Hindi Crime

"The Big Bull" (2021) is a Hindi-language crime drama directed by Kookie Gulati, inspired by the life of stockbroker Harshad Mehta. The film chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of Hemant Shah (Abhishek Bachchan), a clerk from Mumbai's chawls who ascends to prominence in the Bombay Stock Exchange during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hemant's journey is marked by his marriage to Priya Patel Shah (Nikita Dutta) and his complex relationship with journalist Meera Rao (Ileana D'Cruz), who investigates his financial dealings. The central conflict revolves around Hemant's manipulation of the stock market, exploiting systemic loopholes to orchestrate a massive bull run. This ambitious endeavor not only challenges the established financial order but also raises ethical questions about ambition, integrity, and the pursuit of success. The film's tone is intense and dramatic, delving into themes of greed, power, and the human cost of financial manipulation. Director Kookie Gulati crafts a narrative that intertwines personal ambition with broader societal implications, set against the backdrop of India's economic liberalization. Upon its release on April 8, 2021, "The Big Bull" received mixed reviews. Critics praised Bachchan's performance but noted the film's shortcomings compared to the acclaimed "Scam 1992," which also depicted Mehta's life. The film's production values and screenplay were points of contention, with some reviewers highlighting issues with authenticity and character development. Despite these critiques, "The Big Bull" offers a cinematic exploration of one of India's most notorious financial scandals, appealing to viewers interested in crime dramas and biographical narratives.
